UniCycle & Reuse Service

One of the key factors in a fair food system is being kind to our environment and one of the easiest ways to do that is to eliminate single-use packaging when we're eating. Our re-use service allows the university community to hire out cups, plates, glasses, cutlery as well as bins and more to run waste-free events. We run wash against waste stations at the University of Melbourne Farmers' Markets and other university events. In the last six months of 2017 we diverted over 7000 single-use items from landfill by offering reusable alternatives.

The UniCycle is our portable bike kitchen that supports University events to be more fun and more sustainable.

Skillit: Community Kitchen

The  Skillit Community Food Skillshare program offers students of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn new skills through cooking together.

Through weekly classes participants collaborate  to prepare and share one of the host's favorite recipes. Each session is run by an ongoing co-ordinator with a student guest facilitator who, over the course of 2 ½ hours teaches the group a favourite recipe. Each cook up culminates in a sit down meal and a chance to make new friends with fellow cooks.

Fair Food Challenge provides the space, equipment and ingredients as well as a copy of the weekly recipe to take home.

Spill the Beans: Policy Lunches

This lunch series is a space for students to come together to discuss their visions for the future of the University's food system. Each event involves a delicious sit-down lunch, an expert guest speaker and space for guests to engage in lively conversation to imagine how we can build a better food system within our community.

Each lunch will focus on a particular segment of the university community and will be documented to create a short film at the end of the year which showcases student visions for our campus.
